About elevation
Elevation is the vertical distance between your position and mean sea level. Phones report an "altitude" value from GPS, but GPS altitude can be off by tens of meters. This tool also queries the Open-Elevation dataset derived from NASA SRTM to give you a terrain-model elevation — often more accurate for hiking and cycling.
